WHEREAS, Kathleen Kohler was an avid Pirates fan, a devoted church-goer, a caring neighbor, and a kind friend to all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Kohler worked as an administrative assistant at St. Francis Hospital from 1967 until its closure in 2002, and later worked at St. Augustine Seraphic Mass Association; and
WHEREAS, In October, 2011, Kohler was rushed to the hospital due to complications from dialysis; and
WHEREAS, after months of procedures, varying degrees of health, and numerous trials and tribulations in her care, Kohler was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital, a private hospital located within the UPMC Presbyterian campus; and
WHEREAS, hospital staff at Select Specialty provided exceptional treatment, going above and beyond the call of duty to involve Kohler in her care, manage her pain, and treat her with a profound degree of compassion and thoughtfulness; and
WHEREAS, even as her condition deteriorated, Kohler was treated with dignity and respect, offering her family a sense of peace and grace amidst challenging times.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Select Specialty Hospital for excellence in care giving; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 12, 2013 to be "Select Specialty Hospital Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
