WHEREAS, Women of Color HERStory Month® is a citywide celebration of the power, legacy and achievements of women of color that has been held annually since 2008 from February 15 to March 15 during Black History and Women's History Months; and,
WHEREAS, as part of the commemorations, the Women of Color Political Luncheon will take place on February 19th, the Kinks, Locks and Twists: Environmental and Reproductive Justice Conference will be held on March 2nd and 3rd, and the Living Our Legacy 9th Anniversary Celebration kicks off on March 15th; and,
WHEREAS, Women of Color HERStory Month®, which celebrates the culture, legacy and achievements of women of color in the Greater Pittsburgh Region, across the country and around the world, will be presented by New Voices Pittsburgh in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is building a social change movement dedicated to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through leadership development, Reproductive Justice and Human Rights; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is the only Human Rights and social change organization in Pittsburgh for women of color, led by women of color and about women of color, and they are deeply committed to improving the health, well-being and quality of life for Black women and girls; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh will celebrate nine years of organizing and serving 10,0000 women of color aged 12-35 in Pittsburgh through social change activism, civic engagement and leadership development;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 15 to March 15 to be "Women of Color HERStory Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.
