WHEREAS, River City Brass was founded in 1981 to spur the revival and appreciation of the American brass band; and
WHEREAS, River City Brass aims to spread joy and respect for American musical culture, through public performances, educational programs and the production of recordings; and
WHEREAS, the group, which has been called "Boston Pops... in Brass," performs a 42-concert series in the Pittsburgh area and tours across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the group's distinctive blend of musical styles, ranging from big band swing to music from Hollywood and Broadway, entertains over 100,000 listeners each year; and
WHEREAS, through its education programs, River City Brass provides opportunities for youth to play alongside professional band members, providing a valuable outlet for creative expression and inspiring a love for music.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize River City Brass for delighting audiences across the region and sharing the joy of music with Pittsburgh youth; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 29, 2013 to be "River City Brass Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
