Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Diocese of Pittsburgh for creating a legacy of academic achievement, service and faith for 186 years and for instilling important values in our children; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, January 27- Saturday, February 2, 2013, to be “Catholic Schools Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh celebrates Catholic Schools Week January 27 through February 2, 2013 focusing on the theme "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards" by celebrating Masses, open houses, and activities for students, families, parishioners, and the community at large; and,
 
WHEREAS, Catholic Schools Week began in 1974 and it is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association, the world's largest private, professional education association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; and,
 
WHEREAS, the 2013 theme emphasizes the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools promoting high academic standards and Catholic identity across the country; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is the fourth largest school district in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Catholic Schools Week is about celebrating the strength and distinctiveness of Catholic Schools across the State and about strengthening relationships between all those who have an investment in our schools: students, staff, families, priests, parishioners, and members of the community; and,
