Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to continue to work with CalAmerica Corporation to identify the most up-to-date and user-friendly parking meter options in an effort to put Pittsburgh at the forefront of modern-day parking and support our local business and taxpayers; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh calls on the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to research the possibility of using pre-paid parking cards to ameliorate the hardship now faced by our residents and visitors of Pittsburgh business districts.

WHEREAS, convenient and easy-to-use parking meters are vital to Pittsburgh's ability to attract and retain business; and,
 
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2012, the Pittsburgh Parking Authority debuted, as part of Pittsburgh's new parking modernization plan, the new and less complicated pay-by-license plate multi-space meters which allows people to pay with credit cards instead of pockets-full of quarters; and,
 
WHEREAS, in a Customer Satisfaction Survey administered by the Pittsburgh Parking Authority, 93.5% of Pittsburgh residents reported satisfaction with the new parking meters.  However, City residents have continued to call Council offices and the media reporting their frustration with the new parking meter stations; and,    
 
WHEREAS, in cities throughout the United States, including San Francisco, New York City, San Diego and Sacramento, residents have been offered additional innovative options for their parking meter use, including the use of pre-paid parking cards/meter debit cards that can be purchased online.
