Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 14, 2013 to be “Dorothy Edmunds-Carter Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dorothy Edmunds-Carter was a woman of great integrity, gracious and kind to all who knew her, leading a life as a community activist where she was able to touch many lives and be a mother to many; and,
 
WHEREAS, a beloved mother of three children and a grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Edmunds-Carter became heavily involved in her community as a member of the Buena Vista St Methodist Church, which would go on to merge and become the New Hope United Methodist Church; and,
 
WHEREAS, as a member of the church, Mrs. Edmunds-Carter served on the board of the childcare center in the late 60's, in what would eventually become a model for future childcare centers throughout the country; and,  
 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Edmunds-Carter was also active in the senior community, serving as the Director of the Northside Senior Citizens as an advocate for senior citizen issues in the community; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dorothy Edmunds-Carter passed on Tuesday, January 9, 2013, leaving behind a legacy of community involvement which is a model for all Pittsburghers to follow; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to recognize the life lead by Dorothy Edmunds-Carter and all the lives she helped enrich, as her spirit goes on to live through her family and the people she worked with and touched throughout her life;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 14, 2013 to be "Dorothy Edmunds-Carter Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
