Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby welcome the inaugural Peoples Gas Holiday Market to the City of Pittsburgh and encourages all residents to visit the festivities at Market Square.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will transform Market Square into a European style village for the inaugural Peoples Gas Holiday Market, set to kick off with a grand ribbon cutting ceremony and daytime rooftop fireworks on Saturday, November 24 at 12 noon and to remain open daily at 11am through Sunday, December 23; and,
 
WHEREAS, designed in the tradition of the Northern European holiday markets, the Peoples Gas Holiday Market will feature national, international, regional and local vendors displaying unique collectible gift items from around the globe in colorful Alpine-style wooden chalets; and,
 
WHEREAS, festivities will include the Cultural Showcase Stage and International Holiday Saturdays, in which entertainment will be provided by a variety of performers and community groups, including local ethnic and dance groups, harmonic church and school choirs and festive carolers; and,  
 
WHEREAS, children will get the opportunity to meet Santa Clause and have their photo taken with him at his house, constructed and designed by Desmone and Associates Architects and WBCM, with donations of cash or non-perishable food items being accepted in exchange for the benefit of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Peoples Gas Holiday Market has been made possible by the support of founding sponsors Colcom Foundation and Laurel Foundation;
