Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize J'Burgh's essential work in the Pittsburgh Community through its support and encouragement of our City's youth; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 4, 2012 to be “J'Burgh Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, founded in 2007, J'Burgh is an organization that builds networks among young Jewish professionals and graduate students in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, an initiative of the Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center, J'Burgh aims to engage the City's approximately 2,500 Jewish graduate students and young professionals and help keep them in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, through job and internship opportunities, community service and social functions such as softball and kickball games, happy hour gatherings, and Friday night dinners, J'Burgh has attracted over 900 people to their events; and
 
WHEREAS, such events help J'Burgh to give our City's young Jewish adult population the opportunity to explore and develop their personal Jewish identity; and
 
WHEREAS, J'Burgh was recently named in the 2012-2013 Slingshot Guide, an annual list of 50 forward-thinking organizations published by Slingshot Fund, a New York-based nonprofit; and
 
WHEREAS, this honor distinguishes J'Burgh on a national level, recognizing them as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking Jewish groups in the country.
