Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Auditor General Jack Wagner with the Amen Corner Excellence in Leadership Award for his outstanding career and inspirational achievement and does hereby declare Wednesday, December 5, 2012 to be “Jack Wagner - Amen Corner Excellence in Leadership Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, the Amen Corner will be hosting its 142nd Holiday Party at the Mansions on Fifth, in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh; and

WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Amen Corner Excellence in Leadership Award is Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner for over three decades of public service; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Jack Wagner received a Purple Heart and other military commendations while serving in the Vietnam Conflict from 1966-68; and

WHEREAS, following military service, Jack Wagner graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1974 with a degree in safety management, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from IUP for service to the community and the University in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Jack Wagner, represented the Beechview neighborhood where he was born and reared, was a member of the Pittsburgh City Council for 10 years, served as City Council President from 1990-93; and

WHEREAS, before elected auditor general, Jack Wagner represented Allegheny County as a state senator since May 1994, served as the Democratic chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee and also served on the Appropriations; Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness; Rules and Executive Nominations; and Policy committees; and

WHEREAS, Jack Wagner belongs to many professional and community organizations, he is a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Beechview and sponsors his own charity golf outing for disabled military veterans, while know to be a bad golfer; and

WHEREAS, Jack Wagner is most of all the loving husband of Nancy, father of Luke and Sara - always a great and loving family man; and
