Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the hard work of First United Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights, the Malawi Partnership Team from Pittsburgh Presbytery, and the Presbyterian Church of Central Africa and their commitment to the partnership as well as alleviating the gripping famine in Malawi; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 4, 2012, to be “Pittsburgh Presbytery Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since 1991, there has been a partnership between Pittsburgh Presbytery and the Synod of Blantyre in Malawi known as the Malawi Partnership of Pittsburgh Presbytery, involving relationship building, educational events, pastoral exchange, evangelism rallies, medical mission work, and building construction; and,
 
WHEREAS, there are approximately 2 million Malawians facing famine just in the year 2013, and Reverend Dave Carver of First United Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights and Reverend Alex Maulana, the General Secretary of the Malawi synod of the Presbyterian Church of Central Africa, developed the "A-MAIZE-ing Grace Famine Relief"; and,    
 
WHEREAS, through this program, generous volunteers, including some from the congregation of First U.P. Church of Crafton Heights, sew pillow ornaments resembling bags of maize to be given to those who donate $25 which can feed an average family Malawian family for a month; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Malawi Partnership Team, as well as the other churches of the Pittsburgh Presbytery, have worked tirelessly to maintain the strong partnership with the Presbyterian Church of Central Africa for more than 20 years; and,
