Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend law enforcement officers and all of the plungers for "freezin' for a reason"; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, December 2nd, 2012, to be “Take the Plunge Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Polar Bear Plunge (Polar Plunge) is a fundraising event that benefits nearly 20,000 Special Olympians, allowing children and adults with intellectual disabilities to experience sports training and competition, a positive self-image, self-confidence, courage and joy; and,
 
WHEREAS, the third annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at  Heinz Field, 100 Art Rooney Ave, with festivities beginning at 9:00 AM and plunge time at 1:00 PM featuring Louis Lipps, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver as Plunge Master of Ceremonies; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 2011, over 1,200 plungers came out in our second year and raised a PA State record of nearly $300,000 for the athletes and  the 2012 Pittsburgh Polar Plunge set state-wide records again with over 2,000 plungers shattering the plunge fundraising record from 2011; and,
 
WHEREAS, join our Pittsburgh Police force, including Zone 6 Polar Police team who have currently raised over $21,000 headed by Commander Scott Schubert, and all of the brave plungers who give much more than the funds raised; they give the Special Olympians acceptance, friendship and encouragement because they care about this worthwhile cause and it gives them an opportunity to give something back to the community; and,
