Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the memory of Donald Aubrecht for his dedicated communal efforts, and does hereby declare the month of December 2012 to be “Donald Aubrecht Month” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on July 13, 2012, the passing of Donald Aubrecht has left us deeply saddened, he will be missed but not forgotten; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht persuaded his parents to sign papers allowing him to leave high school early in order to join the Navy to serve his country during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht defined himself as a police officer, growing up in the Northside's Spring Hill neighborhood and remained a Northsider his entire life, with many law enforcement officers in the family, it seemed only natural to follow in their paths; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht enjoyed being a policeman, he didn't look at it like a job, it was his life, he liked working with the public, never minding the long hours and long days,; and

WHEREAS, one time, as a child, Don's son David was riding along in his father's squad car, when a man shouted “PIG!” at his father, when David asked, “Why did that guy just call you a pig?” Donald Aubrecht stated, “That just stands for pride, integrity and guts and that guy doesn't have any!"; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht first joined the force in 1957, he held the positions of Patrolman, Lieutenant, Inspector, Commander, Assistant Chief, and for a short time in May 1987 was the Acting Chief of Police, retiring in 1992 as the Assistant Chief of Police in charge of the uniformed division; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht was one of the founders of the Northside Public Safety Council, the first Public Safety Council in the city, a model for other neighborhood initiatives, as well as assisted in organizing Pittsburgh's first City-Wide Public Safety Meeting; and

WHEREAS, Donald Aubrecht was most of all the loving husband of Ruth, father of Donald, Deborah, Denise, Terri, David, and grandfather of seven grandchildren - always a great and loving family man; and
