Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 2012 Community Heroes Awardees for their services to the disabled community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 18 to be “United Cerebral Palsy/Community Living and Support Services Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy/Community Living and Support Services is a nonprofit organization that fosters community inclusion for people with disabilities throughout Western Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, UCP/CLASS assists disabled adults in reaching personal goals through individualized services, ranging from independent living skills and training in the classroom, to community-based case management for social, recreational, and residential support; and
 
WHEREAS, UCP/CLASS will hold their 20th annual "Celebrating Heroes" Community Heroes Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, the Community Heroes Awards honor those in our community who have helped to make the UCP/CLASS mission a reality for people with disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2012 awardees are as follows:  Don Goughler, President and CEO Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, Gertrude Labowitz Lifetime Achievement Award; Rachel Freund, Former Director of Community Outreach, Mental Health America of Allegheny County, Community Hero Award; Inspector Darrel Parker, Criminal Investigator, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr.'s office, Humanitarian Award; Susan Tachau, Executive Director, Pennslvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF), Advocacy and Awareness Award; Highmark Wasl for a Healthy Community, Benefactor Award; Ellen Wilf, Norma J. Gianutsos Volunteer Award.
