WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy/Community Living and Support Services is a nonprofit organization that fosters community inclusion for people with disabilities throughout Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, UCP/CLASS assists disabled adults in reaching personal goals through individualized services, ranging from independent living skills and training in the classroom, to community-based case management for social, recreational, and residential support; and
WHEREAS, UCP/CLASS will hold their 20th annual "Celebrating Heroes" Community Heroes Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Community Heroes Awards honor those in our community who have helped to make the UCP/CLASS mission a reality for people with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the 2012 awardees are as follows: Don Goughler, President and CEO Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, Gertrude Labowitz Lifetime Achievement Award; Rachel Freund, Former Director of Community Outreach, Mental Health America of Allegheny County, Community Hero Award; Inspector Darrel Parker, Criminal Investigator, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr.'s office, Humanitarian Award; Susan Tachau, Executive Director, Pennslvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF), Advocacy and Awareness Award; Highmark Wasl for a Healthy Community, Benefactor Award; Ellen Wilf, Norma J. Gianutsos Volunteer Award.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 2012 Community Heroes Awardees for their services to the disabled community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 18 to be "United Cerebral Palsy/Community Living and Support Services Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
