Whereas, the selfless work of volunteers who devote their time and energy towards improving their communities helps make the City of Pittsburgh a better place to live for all residents; and
Whereas, the Aftercare Jail and Prison Ministry at Allegheny Center Alliance Church was established in September 2010 by a dedicated group of volunteers under the leadership of Lindsay Hargrove and co-founders Marianne Davidson and Rodney Cusdard; and
Whereas, the mission of the Ministry is to provide guidance and support to ex offenders and addicts by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and promoting a 12 step recovery program; and
Whereas, the Ministry helps provide individuals and their families with food, shelter, clothing, counseling, mentorship, employment, criminal justice advocacy as well as spiritual guidance as they seek to overcome their troubled pasts and reintegrate into society; and
Whereas, Lindsay Hargrove was recognized for his valuable work when he was selected 'Most Outstanding Volunteer' for the local Jefferson Awards of Public Service for 2011; and
Whereas, the Aftercare Jail and Prison Ministry will celebrate its 2nd Anniversary, a night of food, fund and fellowship, on Saturday, September 22nd, at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church; and

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of the Aftercare Jail and Prison Ministry for its dedicated efforts in guiding ex-offenders and addicts towards recovery and a more positive future; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Saturday, September 22, 2012, to be "Aftercare Jail and Prison Ministry Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
