WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares, an affiliate of the HandsOn Network, works to increase community engagement through volunteerism and enhance the impact of regional service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares provides volunteers with a high-quality service experience that inspires further action, equipping individuals to work toward positive change in our community; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares believes that everyone can and should have the opportunity to volunteer and that volunteerism can inspire greater community involvement; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares is celebrating its 20th year of service and tireless work toward community development and engagement, organizational capacity-building, and an increased spirit of volunteerism in the City; and
WHEREAS, during the last year alone, Pittsburgh Cares' volunteers filled over 18,400 volunteer slots, completing 2,400 projects and logging more than 70,000 service hours for 500 nonprofit organizations in the region.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Cares for fostering regional growth and development through volunteerism and amplifying the impact of community non-profit organizations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 21 to be "Pittsburgh Cares Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
