WHEREAS, SuesRun4Kids is a 5K Race, 5K Walk and 1 Mile Family Walk named in memory of Sue Lipman, a dedicated runner and strong supporter of KidsVoice; and,
WHEREAS, Sue Lipman, an avid skier, golfer, tennis player, weight lifter and runner, was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Neonatal Unit at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for 17 years and was extremely passionate about protecting children. She worked tirelessly and unselfishly to advocate for children in need and had a special affinity for the welfare of teenagers which led to the creation of the Lipman Youth Fund at KidsVoice; and,
WHEREAS, KidsVoice is a non-profit organization that provides a full range of services for abused and neglected children. The Lipman Youth Fund was established to support KidsVoice staff's work in the community and in the court to advocate on behalf of abused, neglected and at risk children and most recently funded the re-design of its website. The Fund also provides for the implementation of the Clean Slate Program which ensures that children charged with minor offenses have a responsible adult to support them before the magistrate; and,
WHEREAS, with a devoted family and remarkably loyal friends, SuesRun4Kids had a banner first year in 2011 with over 300 runners, raising $27,00 for KidsVoice.
WHEREAS, SuesRun4Kids, in its second year, is set for Sunday, September 23, 2012, in Riverview Park on Pittsburgh's North Side and will feature food, drinks, games, music, a raffle and activities at the finish line as well as the Race and Walk for participants at all levels; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Jill Lipman Beck and Dr. Rod Lipman and their legions of volunteers and supporters who created this meaningful way to honor the life of their mother and wife, Sue Lipman; and,
