Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Stations 8, 15 and 7 and Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services M-1, R-1 and Unit 502 for their difficult, heroic, life saving rescue and care; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, August 31, 2012, to be “Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and EMS Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Tuesday, July 24 a 3-year-old girl was trapped in an apartment after a three alarm fire broke out at approximately 3 a.m.; and,

WHEREAS, Firefighters from Station 8 located in East Liberty broke down the door, found the Girl unconscious in a hallway and pulled the little girl to safety, although she was not breathing; and,

WHEREAS, Paramedics responded to the scene to find the little girl not breathing and administered Advanced life support treatments/CPR and revived the three-year old who was transported to Mercy Burn Trauma/Center and then later taken to Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati; and,

WHEREAS, we would like to recognize Capt. Thomas Reiser, FF Christopher Pedrotty,
FF John Kreger, FF John Mares on Truck 8, and also on Engine 8 BC David Smiley, FF Michael Skruch, FF Keith Ott, and FF Louis Guzzo; and,

WHEREAS, in addition we would like to recognize those crew members from Engine 15; Lieutenant Darren McNeil, Driver FF Richard Boyle, FF Matthew Bachner and FF Matthew Davis and Engine 7; Lieutenant Jeffery Gottschalk, FF Arthur Collins, FF Mark Szramowski and FF Justin Long and Incident Commander BC Timothy Kopicko; and,

WHEREAS, from the Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services crew members from Unit 502, District Chief Michael Robinson, crew members from M-1 Paramedic Matthew Kurlfink, and Paramedic Justin Perry; And crew members from R-1 Rescue Paramedic Jeff Rongas and Rescue Paramedic Jeff Ream provided pediatric advanced life support; and,
