WHEREAS, Hill Dance Academy Theatre (HDAT) celebrates 5 years as an arts organization providing arts programming for youth and adults in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Hill Dance Academy Theatre currently has enrolled 93 students in dance, acting fitness, nutrition, drumming and creative and visual arts programs, also offers dance, acting and community residencies to 228 children in programs at the Schenley Heights Community Development Program, Manchester Youth Development Center, Hill House Camp Rocks Summer Program, The Center that Cares, Abundant Life Ministries and Melting Pot Ministries; and
WHEREAS, opportunities are also provided to ninth grade students for career and workforce development, and connections are made between youth dancers aged 3 to 18 with Pittsburgh colleges and universities to open opportunities for them to explore careers in the arts at local colleges and universities; and,
WHEREAS, HDAT's 8 Week Spirit, Mind and Body Summer Dance Intensive provided over 300 students in Pittsburgh's communities with opportunities to experience dance, theatre arts and music in a summer filled with artistic fun and memories; and,
WHEREAS, on August 12, 2012, Hill Dance Academy Theatre will host its Summer Showcase Finalé, with this year's theme being "From Antiquity to the Present, A Celebration of Black Dance, Black Music, and Black Theatre", to be held at the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Hall at 4PM;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 6, 2012 to be "Hill Dance Academy Theater Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
