WHEREAS, Tots and Tweeds is an independent retailer selling the highest quality infant, children, and ladies' clothing and gifts; and
WHEREAS, Tots and Tweeds was established in 1952 on Walnut Street in Shadyside, and has served five generations of customers; and
WHEREAS, the store, now located on nearby Ivy Street, is closing its doors on July 31, after 62 years of providing exceptional customer service; and
WHEREAS, store owner Jane Runnette Byrnes, who has graced the store with her warm presence, fun spirit, and discriminating taste, plans to retire and spend more time with her grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Byrnes purchased the store in 1967, from Katherine Gross, who opened the shop after sensing a need in the early years of the post-World War II baby boom; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Byrnes has built the store into a Shadyside institution and it will be greatly missed by residents and visitors.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Tots and Tweeds for its 62 years of service to the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 31, 2012 to be "Tots and Tweeds Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
