WHEREAS, City Charter High School is an open to the public charter high school that was started by Dr. Richard Wertheimer and Mario Zinga in 2002, located in Downtown, Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of the technology infused public school is to graduate students who are academically, technologically, personally and socially prepared to succeed in post-secondary education or training. Using a team approach, City High cultivates a safe, supportive and academically rigorous environment by recognizing and nurturing individual talents, needs and skills; and,
WHEREAS, City Charter High School is an all year school that provides dedication to its students and works cooperatively with its students to make sure they are meeting state grade-level expectations, a goal that is achieved through a looping process where teachers stay with the same students from grade 9 onto graduation day; and,
WHEREAS, City Charter High School is a 21st century school that changes the traditional learning environments for students and teachers, with students receiving instruction on the internet and submitting papers electronically through a web application that tracks all student assignments, attendance and grades; and,
WHEREAS, at City Charter High School students are provided with a fair and equal chance to achieve success via a model based on best educational practices, industry and academic partnerships, organizational innovation and technological advances;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 24, 2012 to be "City Charter High School Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
