Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Father Carmen D'Amico for 30 years of priesthood and service; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, July 15, 2012, to be “Father Carmen D'Amico Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Father Carmen D'Amico was born in Pittsburgh on January 3, 1955 and attended Our Lady of Loreto Elementary School, South Hills Catholic High School, the Community College of Allegheny County, the University of Pittsburgh and received a BA in U.S. History from Duquesne University in 1978; and,

WHEREAS, Father Carmen attended Saint Paul Seminary in Crafton and Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg Maryland and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh on June 26, 1982; and,

WHEREAS, He was parochial vicar at Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ellwood City, from 1982-1987 and parochial vicar at Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh from1987-1991 before becoming pastor of Saint Benedict the Moor in 1991; He became the administrator of the Church of the Epiphany in 2003, and was named pastor in 2006. He also became moderator of St. Mary of Mercy Church in 2008 and was also administer (Pro-Tem) of all three parishes; and,

WHEREAS, Father D'Amico is a member of the Downtown Ministerium and the founder of AJAPO (Acculturation, Justice, Access and Peace Outreach) which assists refugees and immigrants from Africa and the Afro-Caribbean Islands and promotes diversity and cultural understanding between the immigrant/refugee population and the African-American community; and,

WHEREAS, Father Carmen D'Amico was formerly pastor of Saint Benedict the Moor Church in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh; the Church of the Epiphany in the Uptown section of Pittsburgh; and St. Mary of Mercy Church in downtown Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, on September 15, 2011, Father was named pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and on June 26, 2012 he celebrated 30 years as a priest; and,
