WHEREAS, in the summer of 2005, a group of students from the University of Pittsburgh began an annual event as a way for people staying in Oakland between sessions to meet others in the same boat; and,
WHEREAS, as the group got older and became young professionals they are now known as the "Tail-Great Committee" and began to use their annual event as an opportunity to raise money for local non-profit organizations; and,
WHEREAS, this year's family friendly Tail Great will be held on Saturday, July 21 and begins with a three hour happy hour tailgate, catered food, snacks, beverages, raffles and more before attending a Pirate Game with security provided by the Pittsburgh Police Bureau; and,
WHEREAS, the charities chosen this year are Steps to Independence, who assist children with cerebral palsy develop physical and cognitive skills; The Patrick O'Brien Foundation, raising money help find a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease; the Animal Rescue League in memory of Megan Young Becker; and United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh and Community Living and Support Services who serve people with a variety of disabilities; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Tail-Great Committee for turning a tradition into a very worth while cause; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 17, 2012, to be "Tail-Great Committee Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
