WHEREAS, Lee Ferraro, general manager of public radio station WYEP 91.3 is retiring this year after 16 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Ferraro has overseen a period of remarkable growth for the station, as weekly listeners and membership have both more than doubled; and
WHEREAS, Ferraro has also directed the creation of the Community Broadcast Center, the first green, LEED-certified radio station facility in the nation, introduced the WYEP Summer Music Festival, and expanded education programming for children; and
WHEREAS, Ferraro's tremendous vision and dedication to the community led him to work with the WYEP Board of Directors to purchase 90.5 FM from Duquesne University to assure the perpetuation of National Public Radio, BBC World News, and local news programming in the region; and
WHEREAS, Ferraro who arrived in Pittsburgh in 1996 from Seattle, where he was music director of the Northwest Folklife Festival, previously managed a public radio station in Grand Rapids, Mich., and served as business manager for a station in Champaign, IL; and
WHEREAS, WYEP is planning a number of events to celebrate Ferraro's lasting contribution and the station's plans for continued growth and success.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Lee Ferraro for his 16 years of service, bringing entertainment, knowledge, and culture to the community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 17, 2012 to be "Lee Ferraro Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
