Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the invaluable efforts of Team Tassy toward fighting global poverty and helping change lives one person at a time and the efforts of Vivien Luk over the past decade to help transform Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 21, 2012 to be “Team Tassy Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Team Tassy's mission is to unleash the inherent power in every person to eliminate global poverty; and

WHEREAS, Team Tassy believes that every individual has potential and works to remove barriers to their success by providing necessary resources to help them work towards sustainability; and

WHEREAS, the organization works to restore human dignity and help families reach self-sustainability by assisting with access to healthcare and education, addressing basic needs such as housing and financial stability, and building a plan for the future including workforce training and job placement; and

WHEREAS, the organization was founded after the Haitian earthquake in 2010, when the organization's founder, Ian Rosenberger met Tassy, a Haitian boy who had survived the natural disaster and life in one of the world's poorest countries, but still faced an uncertain future as a result of a life-threatening tumor that had gone untreated; and

WHEREAS, the organization's first Executive Director, Vivien Luk, brings a track record of success and a passion and drive that will propel Team Tassy forward; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, July 21, Team Tassy will host the Great American Water Balloon Fight to raise money for the organization's work in Haiti, helping to lift future leaders like Tassy out of poverty and heal troubled communities; and

WHEREAS the event, which takes place at Point State Park, will be a family-friendly celebration of summer that will include live music, food trucks, and a massive four-team water balloon fight with over 100,000 water balloons.
