Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Attorney General Linda L. Kelly with the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 10, 2012, to be “Linda L. Kelly Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has honored the memory of Judge James R. McGregor, beloved Past President and member for 50 years prior to his death in 2010, with an award in his name for exceptional contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, the attorney general is the Commonwealth's top law enforcement officer, directing criminal investigations involving narcotics trafficking, organized crime, public corruption, insurance fraud and other statewide concerns, is also responsible for enforcing consumer protection and defending Pennsylvania laws and state agencies; and
WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community is Linda L. Kelly, Attorney General, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Linda Kelly was nominated by Governor Tom Corbett on February 8, 2011 to succeed himself as Attorney General, the Pennsylvania Senate unanimously confirmed her nomination on May 23, 2011 and will serve as Attorney General through January 2013; and
WHEREAS, Linda Kelly is the first woman to lead the Office of Attorney General since it became an independent elected office in 1981 and is only the second woman to ever serve as Pennsylvania's Attorney General; and
WHEREAS, Linda Kelly is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and the Duquesne University School of Law, she began her career in the mid-1970s as an assistant district attorney in Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Linda Kelly has been a prosecutor for more than 30 years, serving as both an assistant district attorney in Allegheny County and most recently as senior litigation counsel as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania;
