Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Women's Law Project for their tireless work on the behalf of women in Western Pennsylvania; and THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, April 20, 2012 to be Women's Law Project Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Women's Law Project is one of only several public interest law centers in the nation dedicated to women's rights, and the only one in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the organization was founded in 1974, by attorneys dedicated to equality and justice for women; and
WHEREAS, the Women's Law Project opened its Western Pennsylvania office in 2002; and,
WHEREAS, the Women's Law Project is a major advocate in the region for safe access to women's reproductive health care; and
WHEREAS, it works diligently to enforce Title IX's promise of educational equity and opportunity; and
WHEREAS, the Woman's Law Project is a tireless advocate for compassionate policies for low-income women and children, and promotes workplace fairness for all women; and
WHEREAS, the Woman's Law Project is passionate in combating violence against women; and
WHEREAS, the organization is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a program entitled "Rights to Realities: Ten Years of Action in Western Pennsylvania" on Friday April 20th with special guest actress and activist Kathy Najimy.
