Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Godwin Nyama for his hard work and dedication to overcoming the odds necessary to become the City of Pittsburgh's first ever PIAA State Champion; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 10, 2012, to be “Godwin Nyama State Champion Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Godwin Nyama, a senior wrestler at Brashear High School has made history by being the first from a City of Pittsburgh public school to win the 2012 PIAA Class AAA high school wrestling State Championship; and,
WHEREAS, Godwin Nyama, competed in the 120lb weight class and defeated 2010 State Champion and 2011 State Runner-up, Connor Schram from Canon-McMillan High School, by a score of 3-1 in overtime; and,
WHEREAS, leading up to the championship match, Godwin Nyama defeated three other competitors, one from Bensalem Township High School with a score of 17-5, one from Franklin Regional High School with a score of 7-1, and one from Nazareth Area High School by a second period fall; and,
WHEREAS, Godwin Nyama, who had only taken up the sport as a freshman in high school, will add the 2012 PIAA State Title to his list of accomplishments for a City League wrestler which include the first to win an Allegheny County tournament in his sophomore year, he was the first to win a PIAA regional tournament, first to win the POWERade Championship, has competed and placed in numerous prestigious off season tournaments, was named High School Athlete of the Week by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and recently participated in the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic; and,
WHEREAS, Godwin Nyama, finished his career at Pittsburgh Brashear with a 126-19 record and will go on to the University of Pittsburgh where he will be studying pre-med and competing on the University's wrestling team, hoping to grow in a sport that he loves and excelling at a higher level of competition; and,
