Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 17, 2012 to be “Reverend Matthew Reeves, Jr. Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Reverend Matthew Reeves, Jr. will retire as Pastor of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, having provided 27 years of service after accepting the pastorship position on January 1, 1985, in a life dedicated to God, the church, his family and the community; and,
 
WHEREAS, as a result of his leadership and vision, Mt. Carmel established a Food Bank and Door to Door ministry to minister and provide assistance to the North Side and surrounding communities; and,
 
WHEREAS, Reverend Reeves' passion and concern for youth was manifested as he led the development of a Junior Church in 1989 followed by the Mt. Carmel Saints basketball team 1991, providing young people an alternative to the dangers of the streets, and providing youth the spiritual guidance needed to make positive life decisions; and,
 
WHEREAS, after welcoming Mt. Carmel's new First Lady in 1988, Deacon Beverly Mason Reeves, Reverend Reeves led the members of Mt. Carmel into a completely renovated building in 1990; and,
 
WHEREAS, the members of Mt. Carmel are grateful for the service of Reverend Reeves, a preacher they describe as having firmly stood on his word, and a pastor who preached in season and out of season with a spirit of love towards all people;
