Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Startup Weekend Pittsburgh's organizers, judges, and participants for helping to build a robust entrepreneurial community in the our City that will continue attracting jobs and new residents from around the globe; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 23rd through 25th to be “Startup Weekend” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, founded in 2007, Startup Weekend is a 54-hour long event where developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups; and
 
WHEREAS, since 2007 over 200 startup events have been held in 120 cities in 35 countries; and
 
WHEREAS, Startup Weekend is designed to bring together a diverse group of entrepreneurs to work collaboratively to develop and test ideas for new products and companies and to receive feedback from their peers; and
 
WHEREAS, Startup Weekend Pittsburgh - organized by Kit Mueller and David Cristello - will be held from March 23rd to March 25th at the Carnegie Lecture Hall; and
 
WHEREAS, Luis van Ahn, the founder and creator of the innovative language software Duolingo, will be the weekend's keynote speaker and the judges panel will include Sean Ammirati, COO of ReadWriteWeb, Sean Macdonald, CEO of Precision Therapeutics, Frank Demmler, Vice President of Entrepreneurial Executives, Michael Madison, Faculty Director of the University of Pittsburgh Law School's Innovation Practice Institute, and Darrin Grove, CEO of TrueFit.
