Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the American Cancer Society's Greater Pittsburgh Unit for its ongoing success with the Daffodil Days campaign and for the determination of the organization to fight and find cures for the residents of the City of Pittsburgh and for all those who are dealing with cancer; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 20, 2012, to be “Daffodil Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in the year 2012, it is estimated that cancer will strike approximately 71,800 people in the state of Pennsylvania alone; and,
 
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society provides valuable resources in Pittsburgh to help people prevent cancer diagnosis and valuable services to patients and their families in Pittsburgh to help them get well after a cancer diagnosis, including transportation, lodging and support; and,
 
WHEREAS, since 1973, the daffodil has been the American Cancer Society's symbol of hope for cancer patients and they will celebrate the 39th anniversary of its annual fundraising event "Daffodil Days" designated March 19th through the 25th ; and
 
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is honored to have Amy Kaminski of Duane Morris Government Strategies, LLC as the chairperson of the 39th annual American Cancer Society Daffodil Days Campaign in Allegheny County and KDKA anchor Jennifer Antkowiak will serve as honorary chairperson; and,
 
WHEREAS, last year's Daffodil Days raised over $460,000 in the Greater Pittsburgh area and this year's goal is set for $480,000, all of which benefits the Society's mission of saving lives and creating a world with more birthdays; and,
