Whereas, over the past two years, the heart and liver transplantation programs at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) have achieved superior patient outcomes that place the hospital among the highest quality transplant centers in the country, according to the national Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients; and
Whereas, AGH's one year survival rate for patients undergoing heart transplant is now the best of any medical center in the state, and the hospital is one of just three heart transplant programs in the country noted for better than expected patient outcomes; and
Whereas, AGH's Liver Transplant program also posted a one year survival rate that is the state's best and among the top 25 adult transplant programs in the country, the program's one year and three year patient outcomes are the best of Pittsburgh's adult transplant centers; and
Whereas, it takes an extremely talented and dedicated multi-disciplinary team of transplant specialists to achieve such great results:
AGH's Heart Transplant program is led by Raymond Benza, MD and Stephen Bailey MD. AGH's Center for Abdominal Transplantation is directed by Ngoc Thai MD, PhD. Jose Oliva, MD serves as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and Kalathel Sureshkumar, MD serves as the Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation.
Other physician leaders in the Heart Transplant program include George Magovern, MD and Srinivas Murali, MD, Co-Directors, McGinnis Cardiovascular Institute, Robert Moraca, MD, George Sokos, DO, Manreet Kanwar, MD and Amresh Raina, MD.
