WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Pittsburgh's professional soccer franchise since 1999, have announced plans to construct the City's first-ever downtown soccer stadium to be located in Station Square; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds is an organization committed to developing the world's most popular sport in a city which has a rich history in soccer, with first class facilities for athletes of all ages and capabilities; and,
WHEREAS, one of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' top priorities is to help children of all ages develop not only the necessary soccer skills needed to be a successful athlete, but to teach them life lessons such as discipline, respect, ways to strategize and prepare, and overall commitment; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Stadium is expected to operate all year round hosting games not only in soccer, but football, lacrosse, rugby, softball in youth, high school, college and pro-teams; and be the venue for outdoor concerts and community events; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds are not only role models on the field but in the community as well by giving in-kind donations, making appearances at charity events, clinics, festivals, or parades, and continually working to make the Western Pennsylvania community a better place; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for their time and dedication to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh and show appreciation for the new stadium which will prove to be a great asset to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 20, 2012, to be "Pittsburgh Riverhounds Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
