WHEREAS, in 2005 the PEAL Center was established as an organization for the parents of children with special health care needs and disabilities that reach out to assist other parents and professionals; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the PEAL Center is to ensure that children, youth, and adults with disabilities and special health care needs lead rich, active lives and participate as full members of their schools and communities by providing training, information, and technical assistance based on best practices to families and all people who support them; and
WHEREAS, the PEAL Center seeks to inspire participants to expand opportunities for children and youth with disabilities to be active participants in their schools and communities and ensure that our communities are welcome diversity; and
WHEREAS, on March 10, 2012, the community gathered for the inaugural PEAL Center Inclusion Awards Dinner recognizing four leaders in expanding opportunities for children and youth with disabilities the 2012 PEAL Center Inclusion Awards will be given to:
Inclusive Early Childhood Services Champion - Barbara Minzenberg, Ph.D.
Deputy Secretary, Office of Child Development and Early Learning
Inclusive Education Champion - Nancy A. Hubley, Esq.
Pittsburgh Director, Education Law Center
Enduring Friendship - Chris McGough and Tyler Palko
TC House Foundation and Kansas City Chiefs

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the PEAL Center for encouraging all citizens to welcome the full participation of children and youth with disabilities in schools and all of those community activities that all children enjoy, and does hereby declare March 10, 2012, to be "PEAL Center Inclusion Awards Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
