WHEREAS, the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Italian Americans in sports; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the national organization was founded in 1986 and has inducted nearly 100 Italian American athletes from the greater Pittsburgh region into their Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, each year, the Pittsburgh Chapter gives out achievement awards to outstanding individuals in the community and issues scholarships to exceptional Italian American students in financial need, and will hold their 26th Annual Awards and Scholarships Banquet on March 11, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter will recognize and induct into their Hall of Fame Dr. Mark Sangimino as Man of the Year, Joe Colella, Tony Bartirome, and Guy Costa as winner of the Dominic Roppa Award, Joe Emanuele as the winner of the Frank A Santamaria Lifetime Achievement Award, John Perrotto as winner of the Joe Natoli Community Achievement Award, Kristen DiCiocco as Athlete of the Year, Joe Lombardi as Coach of the Year, Charles and Lou Caputo as Legal Professionals of the Year, and Ernie Ricci as Business Professional of the Year.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the new inductees to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 11, 2012 to be "National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
