Whereas, as part of the West Penn Allegheny Health System, Forbes Hospice provides outstanding quality hospice and palliative care throughout the Pittsburgh region; and,
Whereas, founded in 1979, Forbes Hospice is the oldest, most trusted non-profit hospice and palliative care program in our community; and,
Whereas, Forbes Hospice helps thousands of terminally ill people live each day to its fullest, surrounded by the comfort of home, family and friends; and,
Whereas, Forbes Hospice serves on average 125 patients each day and 1,600 new patients each year; and,
Whereas, March is National Professional Social Work Month; and,
Whereas, a Forbes Hospice social worker is a certified medical social worker who has had specialized training in end-of-life care; and,
Whereas, as an integral part of the Forbes Hospice team, social workers nurture thousands of patients and are referred to as 'angels', 'lifesavers' and 'saints' by the patients and families in their care; and,
Whereas, Social workers have in-depth knowledge and expertise in working with ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity; family and support networks; multidimensional symptom management; bereavement; interdisciplinary practice; interventions across the life cycle; and navigating health care systems.

Now, therefore be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Forbes Hospice and all of their social workers for their compassionate and dedicated service; and,
Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 2012, Forbes Hospice Social Work Month in the City of Pittsburgh.
