WHEREAS, Urban Mommies is a mom's outing program that offers stroller-friendly cultural and art tours of the city, including private art gallery and museum tours, culinary tastings and other fun city adventures, that can be experienced with a baby or toddler; and,
WHEREAS, Urban Mommies was founded in 2007 as a way for moms to explore the City of Pittsburgh and interact with one another over shared interests, giving moms a chance to leave the house with their babies for a little fun and intellectual stimulation as well as to connect with other women at the same stage of life.; and,
WHEREAS, co- owned by Jennie Pelled and Katie Whitlach, two professional women with first-hand knowledge of the mommy market, Urban Mommies comes up with a unique theme each month on which events are based. Past events have included Health and Wellness Month, History and Food Month, Oakland in October and American's Beginnings and this month will be March into Multimedia with a tour of a local newspaper, a TV station, a radio station and a film studio; and,
WHEREAS, Urban Mommies creates cultural and educational events geared toward stimulating mom's mind while being in a child friendly environment, welcoming all moms, new and experienced, with kids under kindergarten age, to come and explore with them in privately expert-led tours and stroller friendly venues; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Jennie Pelled and Katie Whitlach for their entrepreneurial spirit in creating a viable and dynamic small business in this economy and for providing young mothers the opportunity to engage in a real life social network for moms and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 6, 2012, to be "URBAN MOMMIES DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
