Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor Hilda Pang Fu , President of Luminari, Inc and her Officers and Board for their extraordinary vision to develop the region's most valuable assets, its young people, and congratulates them on the successful development of LUMINARI; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 28, 2012, to be “I WANT TO BE AN AMBASSADOR! DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, LUMINARI is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization founded to foster activities to broaden minds, inspire innovations and promote community engagement; and,
WHEREAS, believing that the Pittsburgh region will become an even more prosperous, vibrant and culturally enriched home to its citizens, LUMINARI envisions an environment that nurtures innovative initiatives in the scientific, entrepreneurial, educational and artistic fields; and,
WHEREAS , the word LUMINARI is the plural form of the Italian word referring to the creative visionaries and experts who shared their light and knowledge in order to inspire others with their works, and believing that there are plenty of luminari in Pittsburgh, two programs have been launched; and,
WHEREAS, the first of the two programs is I WANT TO BE AN AMBASSADOR ! which is a seven day camp designed to help youth master the skill sets and character traits of a successful Ambassador, especially the vital art of diplomacy .The camp teaches students to solve problems effectively at a grass roots level and build sustainable working relationships. It helps develop the life skills crucial to success, learn behaviors and attitudes which respectfully represent our country, their families, schools and communities while learning to handle the world's challenges; and,
WHEREAS, I WANT TO BE AN AMBASSADOR ! program has a curriculum that includes a dynamic and interactive combination of roundtable discussions and activity based exercises which helps campers acquire tools to negotiate complex disputes, uses strategic communication to diffuse tension and facilitates mutually positive outcomes in each challenge. The curriculum includes cultural field trips, guest lectures, media literacy lessons and online safety tips concluding with an exhilarating two day trip to Washington, D.C.
