WHEREAS, The Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh (ULYP) was founded on February 20, 2002 by twenty-four African American professionals, committed to seeking greater leadership opportunities for their peers by using their diverse work and professional experience
WHEREAS, The mission of the Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh is to support the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh through volunteerism, philanthropy, and membership development.
WHEREAS, The Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Pittsburgh, one of sixty three chapters of the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), is a volunteer auxiliary of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh. ULYP's purpose is to assemble Pittsburgh area professionals between the ages of twenty-one and thirty-nine committed to serving the region through activities that support the National Urban League's 5 point empowerment agenda: Economic Empowerment, Education & Youth Empowerment, Health & Quality of Life Empowerment, Civil Rights & Racial Justice Empowerment, and Civic Engagement & Leadership Empowerment.; and,
WHEREAS, 10 years ago today 24 young people; 12 men and 12 women set out on a mission to EMPOWER young people to get involved with the work of the Urban League movement. Today, they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the fruits of their labor, "A Decade of Dedication. A Lifetime of Service."; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend; the Urban League Young Professionals for their service and dedication to the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, February 20, 2012, to be "Urban League Young Professionals Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
