Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of Sarah Heinz House, and does hereby declare Wednesday, February 15, 2012, to be “Sarah Heinz House & Sprite Spark Parks Project Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Sprite Spark Parks Project is part of a multi-year initiative to build and restore play environments where teens, families and neighbors can encourage physical fitness; and
 
WHEREAS, Sarah Heinz House, a Boys & Girls Club, promotes healthy lifestyles and offers an environment that is welcoming, nurturing and challenging; and
 
WHEREAS, this project is part of the national Sprite Spark Parks Project campaign which focused on constructing, refurbishing and refreshing more than 150 basketball courts, neighborhood parks, playgrounds and athletic fields to inspire play; and
 
WHEREAS, Sarah Heinz House provides children and teens with powerful role models and a safe, fun place to go after school, on weekends and during the summer with educational, artistic, recreational and community service programs; and
 
WHEREAS, the Sprite Spark Parks Project offers young people an opportunity to make a difference in their community on their local courts where future generations of basketball stars can develop their skills; and
 
WHEREAS, on February 15, 2012, the community gathered at Sarah Heinz House at a dedication ceremony for the Sprite Spark Parks Project, marking the completion of its refreshed basketball court;
