Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania for its dedicated efforts in supporting the leadership potential for girls, and does hereby declare Thursday, February 16, 2012, to be “Girl Scouts Centennial Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania is the premier leadership development organization for girls, with over 36,000 members ages 5-17; and
 
WHEREAS, March 12, 2012 is Girl Scouts official 100th Birthday; and
 
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds the courage, confidence and character necessary to help make the world a better place; and
 
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1912, Girl Scouts has offered remarkable opportunities for girls to develop positive values and to contribute to society as leaders, thinkers, and responsible citizens; and
 
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts plays a vital role in removing the barriers within our society that hinder girls from leading and achieving success in everything from technology and science to business and industry; and
 
WHEREAS, on February 16, 2012, at Point Park University, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania gathered the region's accomplished women leaders to promote and establish girls and Girl Scouts as a charitable priority;
