Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Kenneth Goldsmith for a lifetime of achievement and success in his professional and volunteer life ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, December 19, 2011, to be “KENNETH GOLDSMITH DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the strength of a community is enhanced by the efforts of individuals who go above and beyond the expected and dedicate their lives to the betterment of others; and,
 
WHEREAS, Kenneth Goldsmith, a decorated World War II United States Army Aviator with over 60 active wartime air combat missions over Western Europe is a lifelong resident of Squirrel and a committed community activist and philanthropist who has been deeply interested and involved in the growth of the City of Pittsburgh. An early pioneer in the commercial real estate industry in the region, he created innovative funding and ownership options, including limited partnership equity interests to promote and attract investment in downtown development projects.; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Ken Goldsmith was an early proponent of sustainable development with attention to preservation which is now known as Leed Certification ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ken Goldsmith was an early founder of the community based Squirrel Hill Development Coalition which was responsible for real estate development consistent with a primarily residential neighborhood; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ken Goldsmith was a community activist, having served as the Past President of the Concordia Club, Trustee of Rodef Shalom Congregation, Alumni and Trustee of Shadyside Academy, Past President and Past Chairman of Braddock General Hospital, Founding Chair and Past President of the Heritage Health Foundation, Past Executive Vice President and Former Scoutmaster of the East Borough Council, PA Chapter, Boy Scouts of America.
