Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Illeana Douglas for her prolific career as an actress, director, screenwriter and producer and congratulates her for her promotion of the performing arts and the City of Pittsburgh through her work. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 13, 2011, to be “ILLEANA DOUGLAS DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Illeana Douglas, granddaughter of actor Melvyn Douglas and Congresswoman Helen Gahagan, knew she wanted to act at an early age.  Douglas began her initial studies at the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. As a teen, she performed in numerous plays and did stand-up comedy; and,
 
WHEREAS, Illeana Douglas made her film debut in 1987 in the Shelley Long comedy Hello Again. While working as a publicist's assistant in NYC, she secured a role in Martin Scorcese's The Last Temptation of Christ, which led to further work with Scorcese, including Goodfellas and Cape Fear; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Illeana Douglas has appeared on several famous television shows, including Seinfeld, Frasier, the Drew Carey Show, Law & Order: SVU, Six Feet Under, and Entourage (to name a few); and,
 
WHEREAS, in 2006, Illeana Douglas co-produced and starred opposite Jeff Goldblum in the highly acclaimed mockumentary, Pittsburgh which brought to the big screen her comedic talent.
