Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate Squirrel Hill native Lenora Greene as she celebrates her 100th birthday and praises Lenora for her continued kindness, acceptance of others and resilience; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 14, 2012 to be “LENORA GREENE DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Lenora Greene (nee Lenora Sigal), native of Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill, was born on January 14, 1911. Lenora, who lived in Pennsylvania for close to 50 years, holds Pittsburgh close to her heart because of her family roots and fond memories , especially of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Isaly's Chipped Ham Sandwiches and Congregation Beth Shalom, where her family were members; and,
WHEREAS, Lenora Greene preaches “accepting life as it comes” and “rolling with the punches” as the secret to longevity. Growing up the youngest of 8 children, she came from modest means and is a survivor of the Great Depression. Lenora lived simply, encouraged others and spoke from her heart; and,
WHEREAS, Lenora Greene believes her greatest achievement to be her family; she was married to her husband, Henry Greenberg (later Greene), for 45 years. She had one son, Irving who attended Taylor Allderdice High School, the University of Pittsburgh, and served in the Korean War. She has three grandchildren (Gregory, Jill, and Ross) who all have become very successful in their respective career choices; and,
WHEREAS, according to her grandchildren, Lenora Greene was the stereotype of the perfect grandmother and the epitome of love, warmth, and acceptance. She is an accomplished knitter and a lover of dancing, swing dancing, musical theater and Broadway shows; and,
WHEREAS, Lenora Greene currently resides at the Devereaux House in Marblehead, Massachusetts, where she will be celebrating her 100th birthday on January 14, 2012, with her family and friends!
