WHEREAS, Dominic DeNucci has been a hero to many Italian-American wrestling fans since making his debut in the ring in 1963; and
WHEREAS, originally from Venice, Italy, Dominic immigrated to the United States and wrestled around the country, finally settling in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Dominic and his fellow Italian-American Bruno Sammartino won the 1971 World Wide Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championships, and he went on to win 13 more Tag Team Championships, six Singles Titles, and three World Heavyweight Championships; and
WHEREAS, in Pittsburgh, Dominic became a fan-favorite in the "Studio Wrestling" scene, bringing young and older fans together every Saturday night at 6:00pm to cheer him on; and
WHEREAS, after his career as a full-time wrestler, Dominic has shared his craft with a new generation, mentoring young wrestlers like Mick Foley, a many-time World Champion and best-selling author who would drive 400 miles to Dominic's gym in Freedom, PA to train; and
WHEREAS, Dominic continues to give back to the community to this day as a founder of the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance and a participant in a fundraiser for fallen police officers Paul Scuillo and Derek Kotecki and Deaf Wrestlefest, a fundraiser for the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Dominic DeNucci for providing entertainment and community service through the sport of wrestling; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 3, 2011 to be "Dominic DeNucci Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
