WHEREAS, Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, initially, the fraternity that was Amen Corner only consisted of prominent and privileged men who included doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians and business leaders but in the 1980's, the organization admitted women and minorities and in 2001, inaugurated its first female President; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht, born to immigrant parents, raised in the Hill District of the City of Pittsburgh, rose to national prominence through his distinguished careers in medicine, law, politics and government; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht built a prominent career in medicine and forensics, having served as the Allegheny County Coroner where he revolutionized the operation of the Coroner's Office by creating significant upgrades in the professionalism and technology of the office; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht is an internationally renowned expert in forensic pathology and notable media consultant on celebrity deaths appearing as a frequent guest on numerous national television and radio shows; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cyril Wecht had an illustrious career in politics, having served as the elected Allegheny County Coroner, Allegheny County Commissioner and the Chairman of the Allegheny County Democratic Party, all during years of transition and growth; and
WHEREAS, on December 7, 2011, the Amen Corner will be hosting its 141st Holiday Party at the Mansions on Fifth, in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh;
