Title: Now, therefore be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors the artistic efforts of Lawrenceville United and Donnie Freyer; and Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, November 21, 2011, as Unity Art Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, the overall vision and goal for Unity Art, Lawrecville's  youth art program, is to introduce visual art to school-aged children in Lawrenceville and surrounding areas; and
 
Whereas, initially funded by the City's Weed & Seed program, Unity Art is a partnership between Lawrenceville United and local artist Donnie Freyer among various other partners; and
 
Whereas, the program is organized through canvassing with fliers, word of mouth, and online promotion; and
 
Whereas, Unity Art spends a total of six weeks on Sunday evenings instructing the students in the various aspects of beginning photography and framing, along with stretching a canvas and painting with acrylics, oils, and aerosols; and
 
Whereas, The program is organized and conducted at St. Matthews Church Hall in Lawrenceville; and
 
Whereas, at the end of the six weeks of instruction, children who participate in the program take part in a community art show where at least one of their pieces of art will be on display; and
 
Whereas, This year there were 55 students enrolled in the Unity Art program; and
 
Whereas, the Unity Art show took place on October 22nd at the Stephen Foster Center with over 60 people in attendance and catering by Kaleidoscope Café.
