WHEREAS, twelve Pittsburgh culinarians were named 2014 Chefs of the Year by Pittsburgh Magazine; and,
WHEREAS, these local chefs have contributed to the immense growth in Pittsburgh's restaurant scene, garnering national and even international attention for the City; and,
WHEREAS, the chefs work closely with western Pennsylvania purveyors from whom they purchase their fresh, in-season produce and grass-fed, free-range, and locally-cured meats; and,
WHEREAS, with the help of hardworking line cooks, sous chefs, hosts, waiters, waitresses and other front of the house staff who ensure that patrons enjoy a smooth dining experience, these chefs can focus their energy on the quality ingredients that make each dish memorable; and,
WHEREAS, each chef, whether a Pittsburgh native or a transplant from another city or country, is committed to playing a major role in the revitalization of the neighborhoods in which their restaurants reside, and to reinvigorating the dining scene throughout our City.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Chefs Chris Bonfili- Avenue B Gourmet, Richard DeShantz- Meat & Potatoes and Butcher and the Rye, Gloria Fortunato- Wild Rosemary, Keith Fuller- Root 174, Trevett Hooper- Legume Bistro, Tony Pais- Café Zinho, Brian Pekarcik- Spoon, Grit & Grace and BRGR, Matthew Porco- Sienna Mercato and Sienna Sulla Piazza, Michele Savoia- Dish Osteria and Bar, Justin Severino- Cure, Mr. Shu- Umi, Kevin Sousa- Union Pig and Chicken, Harvard and Highland, Superior Motors and Station Street Food, and Derek Stevens- Eleven for their recent accolade in Pittsburgh Magazine; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim July 15, 2014 as "Pittsburgh's Best Chefs Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
