WHEREAS, James Houk has been a resident of Brookline all of his life, where he was a member of the Brookline Boxing Club as both a boxer and a coach, a baseball coach to his children and community, and an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and;
WHEREAS, Mr. Houk has bravely served our country as a member of the United States Special Forces, on a U.S. Army Hostage Rescue Team, saving many lives and earning medals of Valor, and;
WHEREAS, Mr. Houk is a successful artist and fashion designer who never fails to represent and promote Pittsburgh wherever he goes, and whose clothing line, BROOKLINE, is named after his neighborhood, and has sold in stores such as Barneys New York and Fred Segal California for nearly 15 years, and;
WHEREAS, BROOKLINE has been included in gift baskets featured at both the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards and also has made appearances in movies, TV shows, and has been worn by many stars, and;
WHEREAS, Mr. Houk's denim line Big Chief, which he developed for two years, features steel collected from sites of former Pittsburgh steel mills in every button, and rivet, and;
WHEREAS, Mr.Houk has designed for companies including Bobby Jones, GAP, Henri Bendel, J.Crew, Kitson, Kohl's, Lisa Kline, Limited Group, the Museum of Modern Art, Penguin, Saks Fifth Avenue, United Arrow, and the U.S. Paralympic Team, among others, and;
WHEREAS, Mr. Houk has designed for Pittsburgh companies including the Andy Warhol Museum, American Eagle, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rue 21, and Dick's Sporting Good, and;
WHEREAS, we congratulate Mr. Houk on his professional accomplishments, and thank him for being an ambassador and advocate for Brookline and the City of Pittsburgh to not only the fashion community, but everyone that he meets, and;
