Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and celebrate Donald G. Militzer on the joyous occasion of his 92nd birthday, honoring his remarkable life, legacy, and the countless ways he has enriched his family and community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, December 31, 2025 to be "Donald G. Militzer Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Donald G. Militzer was born on December 31, 1933, to Raymond and Helen Militzer, and grew up as one of five children on Brent Street in Pittsburgh's Arlington neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, he attended St. Henry Elementary School, Knoxville Middle School, and South Vocational High School, where he studied aeronautics and graduated at the age of 17; and

WHEREAS, on April 14, 1954, Donald married the love of his life, Sophia "Corky" (Torbich) Militzer, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage until her passing on November 14, 1996; and
WHEREAS, Donald built a long and respected career as a mould-maker, learning his craft and completing his apprenticeship at HJ Meyers in Brookline before continuing his professional journey and ultimately retiring as a supervisor from Glenshaw Glass; and

WHEREAS, after retiring from Glenshaw Glass, he continued to help at his son Brian's shop, B & R Starters, five days a week until age 88, where he was a familiar and cherished presence to everyone who came through the door. He is affectionately known as Pap or Big Pap to family, friends, and all who know him; and

WHEREAS, Donald and Sophia were blessed with three children who continue to honor their family legacy; Donald R. Militzer, Sr (Catherine), Brian W. Militzer (Marilyn), and daughter Tina A Allen (Roger Allen); and

WHEREAS, his children blessed him with eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Donald Militzer's 92 years reflect a life defined by dedication to family, hard work, deep community roots, and an enduring legacy passed through multiple generations who continue to cherish and celebrate him; and
