WHEREAS, May 20, 2016 has been designated as the 18th Annual “Take a Father to School Day” by the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, this great event involves every branch of the school district and last year attracted over 5,000 fathers and male guardians from across the city, and this year hopes to include even more; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Education is a strong proponent of Take a Father to School Day and has called for as many participants as possible to come out in support; and,
WHEREAS, each individual school will have planned events throughout the day for fathers and other significant males who play such an important role in the life of Pittsburgh’s children and the successes that they find at school, while also providing ample opportunity for fathers and male guardians to sign up to volunteer their time at their children’s school; and,
WHEREAS, many organizations from around the city have made vital contributions to the day’s event, including nearly 25 men’s groups and other community development organizations; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate Pittsburgh Public Schools and the participating fathers and male guardians for organizing “Take a Father to School Day”; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 20, 2016 to be “Take a Father to School Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
